Absolutely! I urge everyone to set their own pace and listen to their own body. You do not have to be an adonis to take a class. All shapes and sizes are welcome! Embrace your physical stature -- there's no one else on this earth exactly like you!
If you have an injury or a disability, please contact me before registering so that we can decide together if this is an appropriate class for you.
If you are pregnant, do not take the class at this time. I'll look forward to meeting you after you deliver your little bundle of joy!
- Wear comfortable workout clothes and sneakers -- but, please, no tank tops or shorts. And please remove all jewelry before class -- including wedding rings. Wearing jewelry during training is unsafe.
- Bring a light jacket, such as a sweatshirt or hoodie.
- Bring your water bottle and a snack, just in case you need to refuel during the class time.
- Once you register for the class, you'll be sent a waiver form. Please read it over, initial it in the appropriate areas, sign it at the bottom and bring it with you to class. If you take care of this ahead of time, you'll have more class time learning self-defense!
Please arrive about 5 minutes early with your signed waiver form.

All classes are taught by a female martial artist (Shodan: 1st Degree Black Belt). You can learn more about me on the ABOUT page.
There's a variety of self-defense teachers out there, and there's much to be learned from all of them!
One advantage of being taught by a woman is the common experiences we share. Every woman has at least one story of being harassed, or feeling vulnerable and frightened in an unsafe situation. If these stories come up during class (and they often do), you have the advantage of being heard and understood by someone who's actually been in your shoes.
I will also customize self-defense techniques based on your physical size and capabilities, with particular attention to issues of physical strength based on my own female experience and training.
The Ninja Basics and Ninja Advanced Classes are set up as an introduction to self-defense, where you'll learn some very important skills that you'll be able to add to your arsenal. It's also a great starting point for you to continue on with additional training in martial arts, boxing, kick boxing, Model Mugging or anything else that interests you. It's not a substitute for these types of classes, but a solid (and fun!) introduction to the world of women's self-defense.
My goal is to bridge the gap between these styles of training in a positive, supportive and fun environment -- and to teach you a few things that I feel are lacking in other systems.
I've also learned over the years that Martial Arts teachers don't like Model Mugging and Model Mugging teachers don't like Martial Arts -- but I've found tremendous value in both, and I'm hoping to get you interested in both as well!
